Arts Around the Fire was created about to bring together artists, including graphic artists, photographers, performers, writers, musicians and supporters of the arts, to gather “around the fire” for conversation and networking.
We meet on the fourth Tuesday of the month during the months of September through April. Arts Around The “Fire,” is an utterly informal social gathering of members of the alliance and guest” from 6-8pm at the Salvation Cafe, 140 Broadway, Newport.
The Alliance invites a guest in our community to be featured at the gathering to be introduced and say a few words publically to the group with no formal agenda. In the past our guests have included Dan Kertzner, Grant Programs Officer, from the Rhode Island Foundation, which is committed to investing in our arts and cultural community; Eric Broudy, President of Portsmouth Arts Guild, spoke about the arts start up and some of his observations on the arts community on Aquidneck Island; Deborah Obalil – President of the Board of Directors of RI Citizens for the Arts – which is a state-wide arts advocacy organization; Katie Dyer – owner of Cadeaux du Monde which has folk art from all over the world and also heads up Newport Gallery Nights.
“Arts Around” is held in the upstairs function room and features a cash bar, hors d’oeuvres donated by Savlation Cave, and an informal atmosphere where artists, performers, writers and art lovers can connect. There is opportunity to network, meet like minded people and relax. You can sign up for alliance membership, or become a supporting member of the Alliance when you attend.
