Arts Around the Fire
Tuesday, March 19th from 6-8pm
Post & Beam room at Salvation Cafe
140 Broadway in Newport.

The Alliance’s guest will be Leora Maltz-Leca, Curator of Contemporary Projects at the Redwood Library.  Maltz-Leca, who is also Associate Professor of Global Contemporary Art at RISD, will focus on the new Redwood Contemporary Arts Initiative, its mission, its logic, and its past and upcoming projects.

Arts Around the Fire is an opportunity for artists, writers, performers and audiences to engage with colleagues about events affecting the cultural community and learn about new ideas and good work being done.  Arts Around the Fire features a cash bar, complimentary hors d’oeuvres donated by Salvation Café and an informal atmosphere where artists and art lovers can connect.

The Arts and Cultural Alliance of Newport County’s monthly networking event, Arts Around the Fire, will be at Salvation Café on Wednesday, January 16th from 6-8pm at the Post & Beam room at 140 Broadway in Newport.

The Alliance’s guests will be RI State Council on the Art’s Todd Trebour, Organizations Program Director, Maggie Anderson, Director, Arts in Education and Mollie Flanagan, Individual Artists Program Director, who will be sharing information about RISCA grant opportunities as well as their year-long strategic thinking and planning process. Join them in a discussion of RISCA’s mission to support RI’s arts and cultural community.

Join Island Moving Company as they move into Rosecliff Mansion and rehearse the Nutcracker. See the scenes take shape, and also check out the “back stage” locations, equipment, set up and decorations!

Newport’s Arts and Cultural Alliance’s monthly networking event, Arts Around the Fire, resumes this month at Salvation Café.  The Alliance’s guest will be Jay Coogan, the new Executive Director of the International Yacht Restoration School. Coogan is well known in RI as a sculptor, a widely respected leader in the art and design field and former Provost at Rhode Island School of Design. Coogan returns to RI from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) where he was President. Welcome him to Newport and learn about his goals for IYRS and design technology.

Arts Behind the Scenes:  Ronald Lee Fleming’s Nymphaeum Vision

Sunday, July 15th from 1-2pm
Bellevue House
304 Bellevue Avenue
Newport, RI 02840

The first part will focus on the buildup of the Nymphaeum, as well as the Library, indoor theater, outdoor pool, and Cascade of Years of Living Dangerously (CYLD).
The second part will feature the completed project later in the fall.
The Nymphaeum is an homage to the original Greco-Roman environments consecrated to the nymphs, typically built on natural springs.   Nymphs were mythological spirits of nature imagined as beautiful maidens inhabiting rivers, woods, and grottos.

The Alliance’s guest will be Executive Director Rebecca Bertrand of  newportFILM.  Becca was appointed the Executive Director of newportFILM in the fall of 2017.  At this month’s Arts Around the Fire she will discuss newportFILM’s mission to show documentary films and give a sneak peek of summer films in this year’s outdoors series, with a window into how newportFILM makes its selections.
