dominique award

The Dominique Award honors champions for the arts and artists in the Newport County community. Recipients demonstrate a commitment to keeping the arts alive in our community with a collaborative and positive spirit, going above and beyond in their support of Newport’s cultural landscape.

Dominique Alfandre, co-founder of the ACA, was the first recipient of this award in 2010; it has been named in her honor ever since.

Each of the Award recipients has received a piece of art in gratitude from the ACA, beginning with a glass art sculpture created by Natasha Harrison, who helped the ACA initiate the Award in 2010.

On Tuesday, June 21st, 2022, at the annual gathering for Raise Up the Arts, the Arts & Cultural Alliance of Newport County announced the Soul & Conscience Award, a new award honoring LeRoy White. Created in partnership with the White Family, the award will be given annually to a musician, of any age or situation, whose life and/or art contributes to and connects the community with a message of harmony and love.

The annual winner of the Soul & Conscience Award will be given $2000 to use in any way.  No plan or project is required, but the White family and the Alliance will ask the honoree to describe his or her experiences, principally to help the committee promote the award opportunity in the community.  To suggest a nominee, please contact newportarts@gmail.com.
